The town of Charlemont is a hilltown community located alone the Deerfield River and the scenic Mohawk Trail. Settled in 1744, the town was mostly rural, with farming being the main industry until the advent of the railroad, which traveled through town towards the Hoosac Tunnel. Charlemont is still home to working farms and cottage industries as well as many recreational opportunities from whitewater rafting to downhill skiing.
The Charlemont Fairgrounds is open daily to residents and guests. The space is used to host and sponsoring annual events such as A Town Wide Tag Sale, All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast, Yankee Doodle Day, American Whitewater Riverfest, and The Reggae Fest. The Charlemont Federated Church has been hosting the Mohawk Trail Concerts for over 50 years.
Charlemont sits on the western part of Franklin County, along the eastern border of the Berkshires.
