About Leverett

Leverett is a quiet, rural town that is primarily residential. Many brooks flow through the town which supplied power to establish industrial villages and contributed to the economic livelihood of Leverett. Mills and factories included grist mills, sawmills, fulling mills, blacksmiths, scythe factories, machine shops, box shops, a tannery and stills. Today, the largest employer is the Town itself while many residents work in Amherst at UMASS.

Rattlesnake Gutter, a boulder-filled chasm, is the town’s most famous geological feature. It sits along a short section of the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail. Other areas of interest in Leverett include Bushy Mountain, Beaver Pond Conservation Area, Doolittle Brook Conservation Area, 4-H Forest Conservation Area, and Leverett Pond.

Leverett sits north of Amherst and is a short 6 mile drive to UMASS. The town is about a 25 minute drive to both Northampton, via MA-116 N to I-91 S, and Greenfield, along MA-63 N then through Montague.
