About Leyden

Leyden is a rural community with less than 1,000 year-round residents. The town is home to John Riddell, who invented the binocular microscope, and Kirke Brown, who sculpted George Washington on horseback which is at Union Square in New York City as well as many other statutes that are placed around the Capitol. Today the town is largely known for its maple sugar production.

Leyden is mostly forested: Leyden Wildlife Management Area is a major open space property with about 3 miles of public trails. Leyden sits on the eastern border of the Berkshires and sits along the valleys of the Green River.

Leyden lies on the Northern border of Massachusetts, sitting South of Guilford, VT, East of Colrain, West of Bernardston, and North of Greenfield. Northampton is 28 miles to the South and Brattleboro, VT is 12 miles North via I-91 but no state routes or highways pass through the town itself.
