A Home Among the Hills
Tucked into the hills of Washington, Massachusetts, this home expansion embraces its surroundings the moment you step inside. Natural materials and abundant wood set a warm, grounded tone throughout, inviting you to slow down and simply be present in each room.
Completed in 2026, the project reconfigured the home's layout around a generous central living area and relocated the primary bedroom to the same floor — changes that better fit how the homeowners actually live day to day. Architect Rachel Keenan Roberts, AIA, of rkrDESIGN, brought her commitment to environmentally thoughtful spaces to every decision, from material choices to how light and circulation move through the home. Custom cabinetry from Boxco Studio adds refined, functional detail throughout, its clean, modern joinery echoing the home's natural palette.
The result feels less like a retreat from the Berkshire landscape and more like an extension of it — quiet, textured, and deeply connected to place.
